What's Next for Double Battles?

· DBF Team

A question with many answers! The first and most obvious thing you’ll find is that we have…

A new website!

This website — like the format itself — has been a labor of love for the past month or so, putting together a true hub of information and announcements for the format. This website will serve as an easy-to-access ruleset, and it will be continually updated with new announcements, articles, tournaments, rulings, and so much more!

Indeed, you’ll find an array of information here. The first thing I’d like to point out is the Rules page. There is a larger handbook you can pick up and read through on that page, but the Rules page is where you can find a short-and-sweet version for your use. There’s not much else different from Standard Pokémon, so I’ll only discuss the differences there. But it’s still worth looking at to refresh yourself!

The next thing I’d like to point out is the Compendium — it’s a reservoir of information where you can find rulings for specific card effects. Remember, some cards work differently than you might expect in this format than others by sheer virtue of the fact that it has two Active Pokémon. The Compendium is styled in a way that has both a quick Q&A-style system, as well as an in-depth explanation for rulings in the dropdowns. Use the search bar to find specific cards and effects!

You’re also already in the Blog portion, where you can find articles, announcements, and other media! The front page will also have the most recent articles set up. Please remember to check back often — we’re gonna update it fairly regularly, and if you’re interested in adding your own content, I’m excited to see it!

There’s also an About page that you can use if you want to find some more information about the format, contact information for business inquiries, and the efforts behind the format!

New Logo

As a (casual) artist, I designed this logo to reflect several different aspects of the game.

You can see that it’s two trapezoids making up a hexagon shape, and this is for several reasons. The first is, these shapes allude to two cards side-by-side, angled toward the camera — in other words, two Active Pokemon. It also emulates the Roman Numeral of two (II) and “two” is synonymous with “double”. It also has six external sides, representing the six Pokémon in play and the six prizes you need to take. Finally, and most importantly: it’s just easy to draw!

This logo is important because, not only will it be the primary logo that we’ll use on all DBF branding, such as our website, Discord server, and promotional poster — it will, most of all, be used on our…

… Promotional merchandise!

I’ll have another article where I go into more details, but the primary use case for this will be in promotional matches, tournament support and (if people really want them) selling them to support the game!

Please be on the lookout for more information soon!

A Moment of Reflection

One thing that I’d like to take special care to mention is that this isn’t a just-me type of effort. I’d like to particularly thank my brother — Nathan — for his work on this website as well as advising me during the creation of the ruleset, as well as throughout the process. As we reach this new milestone, I also want to thank my friends (in no particular order) Forrest, NerinSerene, Jalen, Colin, Gil, Mikela, and so many more — for your friendship and support.

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that we’re all excited to share DBF with more stores and more people! And who knows, maybe we might have something cool cooking up for a large-scale tournament, too!
