Just Like the Simulations!

One of the biggest problems with creating an alternate format for an established game is the lack of ability to play it online. Sure, TCG Live can play alternate formats like GLC since they don’t directly change the general rules of the game. DBF is a bit different since it directly interacts with the core rules. So, you can’t use Pokémon TCG Live to play DBF online — but you can use TableTop Simulator.

So, for the past few weeks, I’ve been hard at work creating a TTS mod for DBF! So now, you can play Double Battle Format on-the-go or at home, and online with your friends! You can download it below here:

“So,” I hear you ask, “What’s it do?”

Using the mod, you can import any Standard-legal deck into TableTop Simulator and play on a DBF-centric board that has plenty of automatic functionality. From hardpoints for your deck, bench, Actives, and more, to buttons that can easily switch your Bench with your Actives, deck management, and prize card management.

You’ll notice that there are even twelve decks that are built and provided to you! You can use these if you don’t have any of your own built — or you can paste your own in text form into the Deck Importers to create any deck you want!

Granted, much of the functionality is shamelessly lifted from the work of another dude on Steam Workshop. But through that, I was able to make a mod for DBF to allow players to engage with DBF online! This opens a lot of doors for players, including tournaments.

Tournaments, you say?

Indeed! Coming soon to a TableTop Simulator near you will be tournaments! Truth be told, this is one of the main reasons I wanted to create a TTS mod; I realized that, whereas running and sponsoring events in my local community is a major way to provide a grassroots growth for the game, I also realized that people need an online option in order to engage with the game when they don’t have a local community.

Online tournaments are a great way to do that. Not only does it allow you to play the game with someone who’s in another part of the world, you also get the added benefit of having streamers and content creators use TTS if they’re more comfortable with that. There are a number of benefits for having online tournaments, and a TTS mod — and I hope you enjoy playing with it!

Prizing!

In case you haven’t seen, I’ve created a number of different prizes and promotional material to give back to the community and help it grow. I wanted to have a number of dice to give away for tournaments, some dice to play with for my own, and everything in between.

I also have stickers, as well as playmats in the works!

Did you say “playmats”?

As a preview, you may have already seen this picture on the Rules page. But what you didn’t know is, that this playmat is going to be (slightly modified so it can be) the champion playmats for our upcoming larger events!

You can see that there are “buckets” for each of your four Bench spots, areas for both Actives, and even a Stadium slot. There are quite a few plans I have for this, and each one is cooler than the last. I hope you’re as excited as I am!

Larger Events?

That’s right! Outside of the several local events that we’re doing this month, we’re also doing a League Cup-level event at the end of the month! Still have a bit of planning left to go on it, but stay sharp for an announcement!

There might be a playmat and some dice in it for you, if you win!

In Closing

To support something that’s growing, you need to provide nutrition. This goes for children, plants — basically anything that lives must be supported, just like this game. And honestly, I can think of no better way to support this growing game with a bit of my elbow grease and giving people a fun mod to play with!
